Laritza is a metalsmith

and educator residing

in Austin, Texas.

Laritza Garcia is a Latinx metalsmith originally from the border area of Reynosa, Mexico and McAllen Texas. Laritza is a graduate of East Carolina University where she received her Master of Fine Arts degree in 2012.

Laritza’s designs feature the conversion of illustrations into brightly colored wearable artwork. Her fascination with color is rooted in her Mexican American background. Since childhood, Laritza was drawn to the brilliant blues, oranges and Rosa Mexicano tones that coat the facades of Mexican neighborhoods. This cultural backdrop shaped her understanding that physical presence of color is so intoxicating, that it can help re-define our emotional landscape. Each piece of jewelry in her collections is treated like a wearable canvas, infused with bright colors that bring levity to the everyday experience.

Her work is recognized in exhibitions both nationally and internationally as well as national and international craft expositions, including American Craft and Joya Barcelona. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Mint Museum, Arkansas Art Center, and Racine Art Museum.

Publications Include: American Craft and Metalsmith Magazine, 500 Necklaces: Contemporary Interpretation of Timeless Form, and New Earrings: 500 Designs from Around the World.  In addition to being a studio jeweler, she has been a visiting artist at locations across the country and teaches in the School of Art and Design at Texas State University.
